Neighbourhood Parents
(Stadtteileltern)Anyone new to Hamburg, especially those from a different cultural or linguistic background, has many questions. Our project “Stadtteileltern” (neighbourhood parents) helps families find their way around the city. They show them the way to doctors or other services in the neighborhood. They answer questions about childcare, schools and local authorities. “Stadtteileltern” are well-informed and have received special training for their role. They come from diverse cultural backgrounds and speak many languages, and they are happy to accompany you to important appointments as interpreters.
Would you like to become a “neighborhood parent” yourself? Our specialists from Rauhes Haus conduct training courses at Elternschule Billstedt. You will receive free, multi-week training in the areas of health, education and . You will learn about the structures of the authorities and will be introduced to social service organizations. A certificate is awarded upon completion. Following the training, you will have the opportunity to work as “Stadtteileltern” volunteers.
